How it works.Screen by screen.

This is Gathertell one step at a time: the photographs in, the phone handed over, a question answered, the film, the link, and the album after a party.

  • The Scan printed photos screen, for an album named The Drive West, counts the pages of an old album as they are scanned, from 0 to 2.

Start with the photo on the wall.Scan it in.

  • A tap on Hand over the phone opens the walkthrough on the print of a small boy seen from behind, facing Mount Rushmore, and it records Grandpa until a tap stops it and the screen says Saved.

    Hand them the phone.Two taps.

  • The People tab shows questions waiting for a story, and a tap opens the page for Grandpa, where typed questions wait, each with an Answer as Grandpa button.

Ask them something. They answer in their own voice.

The questions are waiting for a story.

  • The People tab shows questions waiting for a story and an invitation for Ruth, then her page, where a typed question about an old photograph waits with an Answer as Ruth button.

Invite them to the album. The question waits for them.

  • The page for a photograph at Mount Rushmore scrolls down to a voice named Dad, Father, heard from its own button, then one named Grandpa, Grandfather.

Hear it in their own voice.Their words, their pauses.

  • The app’s player on a photograph at Mount Rushmore: a name card reads Dad, Father, then Grandpa, Grandfather, while a caption line lights up word by word.

Play the album as a film. One photograph after another.

  • The film page for The Drive West, in the voices of Dad and Grandpa: Dad’s name card and his line as the caption over the photograph at Mount Rushmore.

No app, no account to watch. It plays in any browser.

After the party. The album is still open. Guests sign in and add their photos. It is in your Albums afterwards.
